The Great Dictator

In Charlie Chaplin's classic satire on Nazi Germany, dictator Adenoid Hynkel of Tomaina has a double -- a poor Jewish barber -- who is one day mistaken for Hynkel. Paulette Goddard, Chaplin's wife at the time, plays the barber's beloved, and the comedian Jack Oakie turns in a weirdly accurate burlesque of Mussolini, as a bellowing fellow dictator named Benzino Napaloni,

"Political Comedy on Film" Series Dr. Strangelove Or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love The Bomb

Stanley Kubrick's coldwar black comedy about an "accidental" nuclear attack stars Peter Sellers in three hilarious roles: the U.S. President; a British military attaché; and the mad bomb-maker Dr. Strangelove. Workshop and Reading with Linda Simone

Join this award-winning poet as she shares her work and method, helping the novice and more experienced poet fi nd inspiration in the everyday. Ms. Simone, who won fi rst prize in the 2006 Shadow Poetry Chapbook Competition, is Associate Director of the Graduate Writing Program at Manhattanville College, where she also serves as faculty advisor for the college literary journal Inkwell. Call The Yankees My Daddy Author Talk & Book Signing

Cecil Harris discusses his new book Call The Yankees My Daddy: Refl ections on Baseball, Race, and Family, which provides priceless insight into the team, including their long runs at glory and their struggles to stave off a crumbling 21st century dynasty. Mr. Harris was the fi rst full-time African-American beat writer for the Yankees, earning awards for Gannett-Westchester newspapers (now The Journal News), and has covered sports for Newsday, the New York Post and USA Today.
