Children's Services
Welcome to the Children's Library!
Our Services
A children's librarian is always available to help with information (reference) and to make recommendations or help you select materials (reader's advisory).
Books To Read Booklists
The Children's librarians maintain reading lists for the Very Young, Toddlers, Preschool, Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade, Third Grade, Fourth Grade, Fifth Grade and Sixth Grade. Topic booklists include issues like potty training, new siblings, and grieving. Topic Booklists and Graded Booklists are available in the Children's Library or online.
For Newbery, Caldecott and other award winning books, look in our Online Catalog.
Groups & Classes
Library tours and visits are available to all White Plains children's groups and classes, preschool through 6th grade, and teacher or parent groups. Tours must be scheduled in advance. The children's librarians can also speak about children's literature, the importance of reading aloud and other topics, at your meeting or function. Use the Teacher Request Form* or Call 422-1476. Teachers can also use the form to email the children's librarians with an assignment or have a reading list posted.
Library Cards
Library cards are free to all residents of White Plains. Children from birth through sixth grade are welcome to apply for a library card at the Check Out Desk. Click here for Borrowing Guidelines
Programs
We offer a core of developmentally appropriate programs. Special programs and family storytimes change monthly. Unless otherwise noted, registration is not required. Programs that require registration are limited to White Plains residents. Please arrive early. Click here to link our children's calendar!
