The Local History Collection

"The
Battle of White Plains," by the beloved White Plains artist Edmund F.
Ward, was created to mark the nation's 1926 sesquicentennial and was
displayed for over half a century in the old White Plains Post Office.
It was "rescued" and restored through a community effort in 1984
for permanent exhibition in the White Plains Public Library.
The
White Plains Public Library’s Local History Collection includes books,
pamphlets, maps, clippings and brochures of local historical interest.
Although its primary collection focus is the City of White Plains, the
library collects some historical materials on other towns in Westchester and
on Westchester County itself.
These materials are available for on-site use by any patron
or researcher looking for information about the community or searching
for ancestors who lived locally.
For assistance and admission to the Local History Room, please ask at the Library's Reference Desk; call (914)
422-1480 for information or to make an appointment. In order to access
materials in the Local History Room, patrons are required to leave ID at the
Reference Desk, and the use of some items is supervised. You may also submit your local
history question online.
All books in this collection are searchable in the Library's
online CatalogPlus+. Other
