Computer Classes at the Library

Beginner Classes

(for those with little or NO experience):
Beginner level classes prepare students for Intermediate level courses. Register for Beginner classes in-person at the Reference Desk or call 422-1480.

Mouse and Windows Skills
hands-on

Learn how to use the mouse, including point and click, pull-down menus, and scroll bars. Students will also learn basic Windows functions such as opening and closing programs, minimize/maximize, and how to start a computer session at the Library.

Generally offered once a month. Visit the Reference Desk or call 422-1480 for class dates and availability.

Internet Explorer Basics
hands-on

This class is designed for people who are comfortable using the mouse and are ready to begin exploring the Internet. Students will learn the basics of Microsoft's Internet Explorer web browser software, including toolbar buttons, using links, and finding information on a web page. The basics of using the Yahoo! subject directory will also be covered.

Generally offered once a month. Visit the Reference Desk or call 422-1480 for class dates and availability.

Intermediate Classes (for those with a LITTLE experience)

To take Intermediate level classes you must be able to use the mouse with ease and be comfortable within the Windows environment. For Google 101 and Email Basics, you must also have some experience with Internet Explorer. If you are new to computers, please take both Beginner level classes before taking Intermediate level classes. You must register online for Intermediate classes.

Google 101
hands-on

Learn the basics of web searching with the popular search engine Google, and explore some of its special features, including dictionary, translator and maps.

Gmail Basics

Students will create their own Gmail account, and learn how to send and receive email messages. Creating an address book, saving messages, and sending and opening emails with attachments will also be covered.

Microsoft Word for Beginners

Generally offered once a month

Learn how to create a simple letter using Microsoft Word, one of the most popular word processing programs. Using a sample resume, students will also learn the basics of formatting text, including bold/italic/underline, font style and size, and alignment.

Microsoft Excel for Beginners

Generally offered once a month

Microsoft PowerPoint for Beginners
Hands-on

Learn how to create a simple slide show presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint.

Learn how to use the free online photo album site Flickr to display all of your favorite digital pictures.
