KLEZMER CONCERT RESCHEDULED
An
Afternoon of Klezmer has been re-scheduled for Sunday, January 25th, at
the White Plains Public Library due to the snow cancellation of December 14th.
Ken Maltz on clarinet and Gennady Gutkin on bayan and accordion will be featured
at two seatings, at 1:30 and 3:30 pm.
Clarinetist Ken Maltz is a founding member of the band Kapelye and has performed on stage, television, radio and film throughout North America and Europe. As one of the early pioneers of the klezmer revival, he has appeared and taught at festivals, conferences, master classes and workshops worldwide. Maltz is also a composer and sound designer, with a recent series broadcast on National Public Radio.
Gennady Gutkin acquired his expertise on both accordion and the Russian folk instrument, the bayan, growing up in the Soviet Union. A master player, he won competitions to study at the prestigious Gnessins Institute in Moscow, and toured with a Ukrainian folklore ensemble and the Kiev Circus. He is active in the New York Russian Jewish community, performing locally, at national folk music festivals, at Carnegie Hall, and New York's Jewish Theater.
The free program will include selections combining Old World traditions with new World influences.
