Community Rallies Around The Trove
This spring has buzzed with activity, with friends and families flocking to Applebee's for Dining to Donate days and children emptying their piggy banks for our coin drive at Commerce Bank.
The White Plains Library Foundation was also pleased to sponsor two very special events in May to build The Trove, and even more pleased to report that the community came out in force and raised over $30,000!
Our event on May 22nd featured guest speakers Lawrence Graham and Pamela Thomas-Graham. Larry Graham, who grew up in White Plains, is a nationally known attorney and commentator, author of 13 books, and a lifetime fan of the White Plains Public Library where he served as Trustee in the 1990s. His wife, Pamela, is Chairman of CNBC and the author of 3 novels, including her newest murder mystery, Orange Crushed. Nearly 100 guests enjoyed music, hors d'oeuvres, wine tasting and a silent auction at The Woman's Club of White Plains, while viewing a model and slide show of the project. On May 26th, nearly 150 friends, neighbors and colleagues gathered at the Library to enjoy a dessert reception to honor Bob Greer. As a city councilman and founding member of the White Plains Library Foundation, Bob has been instrumental in making The Trove a reality. Thanks to the generous outpouring of support, a special reading alcove will be dedicated to Bob Greer when The Trove opens this fall. For a gallery of photos from the event, click here.
On the first weekend in June, 56 children painted tiles that will become part of a permanent "puzzle wall" display in The Trove. We hope this will become an annual fundraiser, and the puzzle wall will be gradually expanded over time. For more information about painting a tile, click here.
We are grateful to all our community members who have been so generous, caring and supportive. Your energy and enthusiasm will make the story of how we built The Trove a page-turner that will be told for generations to come!
