Following its amazing success with The Trove children's library,
White Plains Public Library is ready to take the next step and create
distinctive space and services for teens. The White Plains Library Foundation
has agreed to take on this project and raise 100% of the funding needed!
The plan is to redo space on the Library's first floor as a
visually distinct, welcoming area for teens with its own name ("The Edge"),
theme, and decor. Display shelving, panels, and furnishings will be used to
set the space apart as a teen-friendly seating, study and viewing/listening
area. At the same time, the Library will further develop its programs and
online presence for this age group. In the process of rearranging things, we
will also improve accommodations for our local history materials and regular
adult seating.
With the Library Foundation and community involvement, the
Library plans to spend the coming months raising the money, doing the design,
and making it happen. The project budget (and fund raising goal) is $250,000,
and we hope to reach that goal and complete the project by fall 2009.
Please consider making a special gift today to help fund "The
Edge." Donors at every level will be listed on the Library's website and in
Foundation publications. Sponsorships of $1,000 and up will receive prominent
recognition in "The Edge" and special recognition in conjunction with our
Gala on October 25, 2008, including journal ad (7.5 x 10), tickets ($2,500+),
and if confirmed by August 1, 2008, a listing in our 2008 Gala invitation.
Gifts from $125 - $999 will also receive recognition in our Gala journal.
Many thanks for your support...and for making dreams come true.

About the White Plains Library Foundation
The
Foundation was incorporated in 1995 to raise funds to help meet the
long-range goals of the White Plains Public Library. From 1997-2001 the
Foundation conducted its first fund raising effort, a Centennial Campaign,
that raised $1 million to enhance programs and collections, establish an
endowment, and seed a capital project to renovate and expand the children's
library. In 2004-2005 The Campaign for the Children's Library raised an
additional $750,000 and The Trove opened to community acclaim. From new
after-school programs to outstanding cultural events, literacy initiatives,
convenient online services and dynamic space improvements like the upcoming
teen area, every program you support through the Library Foundation makes a
powerful impact. A list of corporate and individual contributors is
available on our website at www.whiteplainslibrary.org.
